Cinderella Liberty Soundtrack [1973-2011]

CD world premiere of John Williams soundtrack for salty Mark Rydell drama with James Caan as sailor on brief liberty, Marsha Mason as hooker he falls in love with. Williams writes score of some importance: project immediately follows on heels of POSEIDON ADVENTURE (which initiates ultra-successful series of disaster films like TOWERING INFERNO, EARTHQUAKE, JAWS) but plays in contrast to Irwin Allen's upside down tale with its own seaworthy score full of wistful romance, soulful melody, brash poolhall swagger. Tuneful effort earns Williams not one but two Academy Award nominations: one for original score, one for haunting song written in partnership with Paul Williams. Further adding to importance is introduction of soon-to-be Williams signature of scoring for world-class instrumental soloists: here he engages harmonica work of legendary Jean "Toots" Thielemans. War Horse Soudntrack [2011]

From director Steven Spielberg comes War Horse, an epic adventure for audiences of all ages. Set against a sweeping canvas of rural England and Europe during the First World War, War Horse begins with the remarkable friendship between a horse named Joey and a young man called Albert, who tames and trains him. When they are forcefully parted, the film follows the extraordinary journey of the horse as he moves through the war, changing and inspiring the lives of all those he meets — British cavalry, German soldiers, and a French farmer and his granddaughter — before the story reaches its emotional climax in the heart of No Man's Land.

 


The First World War is experienced through the journey of this horse — an odyssey of joy and sorrow, passionate friendship and high adventure. War Horse is one of the great stories of friendship and war — a successful book, it was turned into a hugely successful international theatrical hit that is arriving on Broadway next year. It now comes to screen in an epic adaptation by one of the great directors in film history.

 

The film is set to hit theaters on December 28 and stars Jeremy Irvine, Emily Watson, Peter Mullan, David Thewlis, Benedict Cumberbatch, Stephen Graham, Tom Hiddleston, Niels Arestrup, David Kross, Rainer Bock, Nicolas Bro and Robert Emms.

The Adventures of Tintin Soundtrack [2011]

The film will depict Tintin’s (Jamie Bell) first encounter with Captain Haddock (Andy Serkis) and the discovery of a clue to the treasure of his ancestor Sir Francis Haddock. They set out to find it with protection from a prison escapee who tried to get the treasure as well as Detectives Thomson (Nick Frost) and Thompson (Simon Pegg).

The screenplay was penned by Edgar Wright (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World), Joe Cornish (Ant-Man) and Steven Moffat (Doctor Who) and co-stars Daniel Craig as Red Rackham, Toby Jones as Silk, Mackenzie Crook as Ernie, Tony Curran as Lt. Delcourt, Cary Elwes as Pilot and Gad Elmaleh as Ben Salaad.


The film is the first in a proposed trilogy of feature films based on the highly acclaimed comic-books created by Belgian artist, Georges Rémi, better known to the world by his pen name Herge.
Steven Spielberg takes the duty of director while Peter Jackson will serve as producer (Jackson will direct the sequel). Jackson’s F/X company Weta Digital will do the movie’s motion capture and special effects. Tintin will be Spielberg’s first move that will be shot digitally.

The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn, comes to theaters December 23rd, 2011.

Soundtrack comes a bit early marking legendary John Williams full score after almost two and half years from Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of The Crytal Skull.

Hollywood in Vienna [2011]

"Forrest Gump" composer Alan Silvestri, "Harry Potter" composer Patrick Doyle and the ten-time Emmy winner Bruce Broughton are the star guests at this year's "Hollywood in Vienna" gala, held on 23 September 2011 under the title "Magic Moments" takes place at the Vienna Konzerthaus.

Under the musical direction of John Axelrod plays the ORF Radio Symphony Orchestra for an evening unforgettable film melodies. The program is still under development, there is already a preview. Hearing will include pieces from the following movies:

John Williams - Discography

John Towner Williams (born February 8, 1932) is an American composer, conductor, and pianist. In a career spanning six decades, he has composed some of the most recognizable film scores in the history of motion pictures, including those for Jaws, Star Wars, Superman, the Indiana Jones films, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Hook, Jurassic Park, Schindler's List, Home Alone, and three Harry Potter films. He has composed the music for all but two of director Steven Spielberg's feature films.

Other notable works by Williams include theme music for four Olympic Games, the NBC Nightly News, the rededication of the Statue of Liberty, the DreamWorks Pictures production logo, and the television series Lost in Space. Williams has also composed numerous classical concerti, and he served as the principal conductor of the Boston Pops Orchestra from 1980 to 1993; he is now the orchestra's conductor laureate.

Williams has won five Academy Awards, four Golden Globe Awards, seven BAFTA Awards, and 21 Grammy Awards.[1] With 45 Academy Award nominations, Williams is, together with composer Alfred Newman, the second most nominated person, after Walt Disney.[2] John Williams was honored with the prestigious Richard Kirk award at the 1999 BMI Film and TV Awards. The award is given annually to a composer who has made significant contributions to film and television music.[3] Williams was inducted into the Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame in 2000, and was a recipient of the Kennedy Center Honors in 2004.

The most important, previously unreleased, John Williams score finally comes to CD, and it only took 34 years! Here it is … John Williams’ 1976 score for Alfred Hitchcock’s final film – Family Plot.



Only the film’s spirited End Title has ever been released previously. At long last, the entire magical, mischievous and macabre score is available. Family Plot is a very important score for Williams in that it established a certain approach and tone of writing that he would further explore in such diverse later scores as Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Home Alone, The Witches of Eastwick and Harry Potter, among others.

A wealthy old woman hires a con man (Bruce Dern) and a phony psychic (Barbara Harris) to find her long-lost nephew. The results are diabolically funny as this suspense-comedy combines mystery and mayhem in nonstop excitement from beginning to end.

The Poseidon Adventure Soundtrack [1972-2010]

First time entire score is presented in STEREO! Presenting the premiere stereo release of John Williams' (JAWS, STAR WARS, RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK, SCHINDLER'S LIST) classic score to the legendary 1972 Twentieth Century Fox adventure film THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE, starring Gene Hackman, Ernest Borgnine, Shelly Winters and Red Buttons, produced by Irwin Allen and directed by Ronald Neame. Williams' epic orchestral score expertly intertwines the film's examination of heroism and tragedy. Produced by Nick Redman and Mike Matessino, mastered by Daniel Hersch, and remixed and sequenced by Mike Matessino, this superb-sounding special limited edition release features never-before-released Bonus Tracks, including the film versions of "The Morning After", source cues and alternate versions of the main title. In-depth liner notes by Jeff Bond take you behind the scenes of the film and its music. This is a limited edition of 3000 Units.

For this release, the 2" 24-track tape containing the original 35mm 6-track mag was transferred into Pro Tools, and restored and mixed with the advantages of another decade's advance in sound processing technology.

After the surprising success of Airport in 1970, the stage was set for a series of highly popular disaster films in that decade, led by a leap from television to big screen by producer Irwin Allen. Having offered several documentaries and fantasy TV series in the years prior, Allen would jump from the massive success of The Poseidon Adventure in 1972 to The Towering Inferno in 1974, before The Swarm later in the 1970's would end his run. These films usually put stellar casts on display, and along with its mammoth production values for the time, The Poseidon Adventure would receive nine Academy Award nominations (winning for song and special effects). Among these nominations was one for the score by John Williams, who had himself morphed from the "Johnny" Williams of 1960's jazz into a capable symphonic action composer by the time his collaboration with Allen reached the big screen. Despite his soon-to-come reputation, however, Williams' work here is largely atmospheric. His harsh, brass theme of epic proportions for the title is utilized often, but always in the context of a tumultuous rhythmic base. It stylistically resembles the title theme for The Towering Inferno, and also shares similar chord progressions with some of David Arnold's 1990s disaster themes. But unlike The Towering Inferno, in which the title theme receives a glorious performance before the disaster strikes, Williams makes The Poseidon Adventure doomed from the very start. There is little setup time before the cruise ship is struck by a tidal wave and flipped, and the music that introduces the liner at the opening doesn't vary much from the troubled environment of escape attempts during the rest of the film.
