Rebellion (L’ordre et la morale) Soundtrack [2011]

Image

In Mathieu Kassovitz's Rebellion, France's elite police intervention force GIGN get their second big-screen outing this year, following Julien Leclercq's hijack drama The Assault. But where the earlier film cut promptly to the chase, this is the story of a hostage-taking negotiation undermined by political scheming, requiring lengthy exposition before finally erupting into action. It feels over-researched and under-dramatized. It is also overlong. It will be a hard sell even in France, let alone in other territories.

Like Assault, Rebellion is an account of a real-life hostage drama. When a group of separatist rebels in France's New Caledonia territory in the South Pacific seize 30 gendarmes, specialist negotiator Philippe Legorjus, played by Kassovitz himself, is called in at the head of a seven-man GIGN unit to defuse the crisis. He and his men are in turn are taken hostage but the rebels release him to allow him to serve as mediator between the army chiefs who are planning an assault and the rebel leader Alphonse Dianou

Labelzero has released a soundtrack album for the Rebellion. The album includes the original score by composer Klaus Badelt. The only person aware of the pending doom is Jimbo Farrar, a sixth prodigy, who has gathered them. As long as he fights against his five counterparts with all his might, there’s hope for the world. Shanghai Soundtrack [2010]

In the months leading up to the bombing of Pearl Harbor, an American man (Cusack) arrives in Shanghai to find his friend Conner recently murdered. After further investigation, Cusack realizes Conner had an affair with Japanese Captain Tanaka's lover, Sumiko. Unconvinced that Sumiko betrayed Conner, he later dons his Nazi-sympathizer/German cover and he meets Mr. Lang-Ting (Chaw Yun-Fat) and Captain Tanaka (Ken Watanabe). Paul later uncovers numerous photos Conner took, in his darkroom, some of which include Captain Tanaka and his officers. After a few bizarre encounters with Ms. Lang-Ting (Gong Li) and Antony Lang-Ting, Paul realizes that Mrs. Lang-Ting secretly leads the Resistence-a group that is anti-Japanese,while her husband, Anthony, who is partners with Captain Tanaka's soldiers, is oblivious to this. In investigating his friend's death, he stumbles upon a secret the United States government has been keeping and falls in love in the process.
