L.A Noire and Remixed Soundtrack [2011]

Rockstar Games announced recently that the upcoming L.A. Noire release will be accompanied by a simultaneous release of the game’s soundtrack and a remix album on iTunes. As the game is set in the Los Angeles of the 1940s, the soundtrack aims to recreate the sense of an old film-noir soundtrack, replete with orchestral background music. Additionally, contextually-appropriate songs will appear within the game diegesis, and will include tracks by Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie, Louie Armstrong, Thelonius Monk, et al.

The game’s lead composer is Andrew Hale, of British bands Sade and Sweetback, who recorded the tracks for L.A. Noire in the Abbey Road Studios of Westminster. The soundtrack also features original vocal work courtesy of Claudia Brucken, formerly of German synth-pop group Propaganda, produced by Steven Coates of the modern British jazz cabaret ensemble The Real Tuesday Weld. Other tracks feature composer Woody Jackson, one of the composers behind the award-winning score of Red Dead Redemption.

The remix album is apparently the product of a collaboration with Verve Records, and will feature six licensed jazz tracks from the game remixed by six different artists. Details on the nature of the remixes are sparse, though fans of the original music should expect either an entertaining modern re-imagining of jazz classics, or perhaps an outright desecration.
