Jonah Hex Score [2010]

http://img121.imageshack.us/img121/104/jonahhexsoundtrackalbum.jpg

First, majestic prog-metallists Mastodon created the cinematic 'Crack the Skye' album, and now the Atlanta-based aristst are getting ready to release the actual movie soundtrack to 'Jonah Hex' with Oscar-nominated composer Mario Beltrami ('The Hurt Locker,' '3:10 to Yuma').

The movie opens in theaters on June 18, and on June 29 a six-track EP Warner Bros. Records will issue a six-track EP of music Mastodon wrote for the movie. Director Jimmy Hayward, a big fan of Mastodon's 2006 album 'Blood Mountain,' personally asked the group to write the score for 'Jonah Hex.'

"Jimmy called us out of the blue as a fan," bassist Troy Sanders said in an interview. "It was the most beautiful, authentic way to collaborate."

For their first film scoring experience, Mastodon recorded the tracks for 'Jonah Hex' by viewing movie footage and actually composing spontaneously in the studio. This method of experimental and immediate composition proved to be a daring, daunting and ultimately fun way of creating music together over a short period of time. The EP tracks include 'Death March,' 'Clayton Boys,' 'Indian Theme' and 'Train Assault.'

Based on a character from the comic book series from DC Comics, 'Jonah Hex' is an epic action adventure about one man's personal quest for redemption in a battle between good and evil. The star-studded film stars Academy Award nominee Josh Brolin ('Milk,' 'No Country For Old Men'), two-time Academy Award nominee John Malkovich ('In the Line of Fire,' 'Places in the Heart'), Megan Fox ('Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen'), Michael Fassbender ('Inglourious Basterds'), Will Arnett ('Blades of Glory') and Academy Award nominee Michael Shannon ('Revolutionary Road').

Track list
01. Death March
02. Clayton Boys
03. Indian Theme
04. Train Assault
05. Death March (Alternate Version)
06. Clayton Boys (Alternate Version)

The Twilight Sage Eclipse Score [2010]

In Twilight Saga: Eclipse, Bella once again finds herself surrounded by danger as Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge. In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between Edward and Jacob – knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the struggle between vampire and werewolf. With her graduation quickly approaching, Bella is confronted with the most important decision of her life.

Melissa Rosenberg wrote the scripts for all three films in The Twilight film series and Eclipse has David Slade as its director. The film stars Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, Bryce Dallas Howard, Ashley Greene, Billy Burke, Peter Facinelli, Elizabeth Reaser, Nikki Reed, Kellan Lutz, Jackson Rathbone and Dakota Fanning.

The third film in the franchise, Twilight Saga: Eclipse opens in conventional theaters and IMAX on June 30, 2010 which is today. I'm not going to buy any ticket for this film after I saw the second Twilight.

Lord of the Rings composer Howard Shore was beginning to score Eclipse from Jannuary this year. He wrote the music for the film, following in the footsteps of Carter Burwell (who scored the first film in 2008) and Alexandre Desplat (who wrote the music for the second, New Moon even he didn't care about Cater Burwell's score and did not see the first film).

Rango first trailer

Ma

Rango centers on a chameleon who’s going through an identity crisis and embarks on a cross-country journey where he ends up in the dangerous SouthWest territory. Instead of the animals being portrayed as creatures in the wild they’re given human characteristics, a cowboy/mariachi wardrobe, and a Western genre vibe.

The animated movie, directed by Gore Verbinski (Pirates Of The Caribbean), also stars the voice talents of Isla Fisher, Abigail Breslin, Alfred Molina, Bill Nighy, Harry Dean Stanton, Ray Winstone, and Timothy Olyphant. Err another slim guy you know is Johnny Depp giving his voice for chameleon.

Rango hits theaters on March 4 or March 18, 2011 whatever way too long this time.

Despicable Me Soundtrack [2010]

Despicable Me OST

The 'Despicable Me' soundtrack features a lot of writing, production, and new songs from Pharrell Williams, who also co-produced the movie's score with the legendary Hans Zimmer. Perhaps Clearly the most interesting of the bundle comes courtesy of 'The Minions', who I believe are the little critters you see above. In "Minion Mambo", Lupe writes and performs as 'The Minions' and his voice is then modified to be their high-pitch. Amidst the rhyming is some singing from Pharrell, which makes for a unique track to say the least. The lyrics are pretty clever if you pay attention closely, but it's not quite the collabo you are expecting. Pharrell continues the singing in the trio of solo tracks available below, also for the movie. "Rocket's Theme" is the simplest and my favorite of those three. Finally, Robin Thicke contributes his musical stylings on "My Life", which is another nice upbeat record that matches the theme of all of the tracks in the post.

In a happy suburban neighborhood surrounded by white picket fences with flowering rose bushes, sits a black house with a dead lawn. Unbeknownst to the neighbors, hidden beneath this home is a vast secret hideout. Surrounded by a small army of minions, we discover Gru (voiced by Steve Carell), planning the biggest heist in the history of the world. He is going to steal the moon (Yes, the moon!) in Universal’s new 3-D CGI feature, Despicable Me.

Gru delights in all things wicked. Armed with his arsenal of shrink rays, freeze rays and battle-ready vehicles for land and air, he vanquishes all who stand in his way. Until the day he encounters the immense will of three little orphaned girls who look at him and see something that no one else has ever seen: a potential Dad.

The world’s (second) greatest villain has just met his greatest challenge: three little girls named Margo, Edith and Agnes. www.despicable.me

Speed 2 Cruise Control Soundtrack [1997-2010]

Premiere release of Mark Mancina’s Speed 2: Cruise Control soundtrack - the powerhouse score to the 1997 sequel starring Sandra Bullock, Jason Patric and Willem Dafoe.

Orchestra and electronics combine in spectacular Mancina fashion, resulting in a full-throttle score that skillfully revisits the composer’s classic Speed soundtrack, while also spinning off from it in exhilarating new directions. Produced by Nick Redman and Mike Matessino, and digitally edited and mastered by Mike Matessino and Neil S. Bulk, this dynamic album presentation includes a notable amount of music that wasn’t used in the film (due to the picture’s ever-changing edits right up to its release date).

More than 70 minutes of pure adrenaline!

This is a limited edition of 3000 units.

Bigger's certainly not better in this lame sequel. Annie's (Bullock) got a new beau, hot-headed cop Alex (Patric), and the twosome decide to go on a Caribbean cruise for a little romance. Annie's luck with transportation holds as the ship is taken over by villainous computer geek-with-a-grudge John Giger (a particularly wild-eyed Dafoe), who sends the liner on a collision course with an oil tanker. Since Alex is off performing heroics, there's not much togetherness and Annie's left to get taken hostage (again). De Bont spent $25 mil on the ship's endless crash into a Caribbean island, which still manages to look fake and only elicits "you've got to be kidding me" disappointment. Bullock's feisty but powerless to save the flick. Patric's bland, and Dafoe is never menancing enough to create any thrills. This sea disaster crashes against the rocks of high expectations and poor execution.

Inception

Music From The Motion Picture - the dramatic score to the highly anticipated sci-fi actioner Inception - will be released digitally and on CD by Warner Bros. Records on July 13th, three days before the movie opens nationwide in theatres and IMAX on July 16th. A vinyl edition of the soundtrack will be released on August 3rd.

With Inception, the musical approach has been shrouded in the same secrecy as the film itself, but Zimmer has always been that way. He did open up briefly about the score, which also features Modest Mouse guitarist Johnny Marr. According to Hans Zimmer: “It’s a very electronic score. There is orchestra, but the electronics share an equal spotlight, and I also have Johnny Marr playing guitar. Besides Johnny and the orchestra, everything else stays virtual throughout the mix.”

The track listing for Inception: Music From The Motion Picture is as follows:

1. Half Remembered Dream
2. We Built Our Own World
3. Dream Is Collapsing
4. Radical Notion
5. Old Souls

Splice Soundtrack [2010]

Clive and Elsa are superstars of the genetic engineering world. They specialize in splicing together DNA from different animals to create fantastical new hybrids. The charismatic couple wants to use human DNA in a new hybrid – something that could yield astronomical medical benefits. The pharmaceutical company that funds their research, however, is more interested in exploiting their earlier triumphs for easier, short-term profit. Clive and Elsa secretly conduct their own experiment. The result is Dren: an amazing creature who exhibits an array of unexpected developments, both physical and intellectual. Dren exceeds their wildest dreams... and, ultimately, their most terrifying nightmare.

Vincenzo Natali’s Splice puts the Frankenstein myth into modern terms; why stitch together parts when you can genetically create a whole? A whole what? That’s the question this creepy-sexy horror movie wraps your head around.
Clive (Oscar winner Adrien Brody) and Elsa (Sarah Polley) are laid-back biochemists and lovers, cloning two lumpy slugs that secrete enzymes to bolster livestock feed. Hey, it’s a living. The job also gives Elsa a chance to experiment with human DNA in the creatures’ genes, perhaps inventing a cure for cancer

John Barry The Collection, 40 Years Of Film Music [2001]

Bruce Eder
This is a lot of soundtrack music -- 258 minutes' worth, actually -- which is understandable, as it covers approximately 40 years in the career of John Barry. The 40 years isn't quite comprehensive, skipping past Barry's earliest screen compositions for the films Beat Girl, Never Let Go, and The Amorous Prawn, as well as his music for The L-Shaped Room, Dutchman, Seance on a Wet Afternoon, and King Rat, in favor of the bigger films that the composer worked on during the '60s and beyond.

Beginning with his thunderous score for Zulu, represented by a seven-minute track here, the collection concentrates primarily on the international side of Barry's career, while also offering little oddities out of his history, such as his 1968 theme "The Girl With the Sun in Her Hair," from a commercial for Sunsilk. The collection runs right up through Barry's music for Cry the Beloved Country and Mercury Rising, and ends with the disputed "James Bond Theme" (in what is one of the few relatively flat, unexciting performances in this set). All of this material is presented in new recordings by Nic Raine and the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, accompanied on a half-dozen cuts by the Crouch End Festival Chorus. They're spirited enough, as is Raine's conducting, and the producers have given most of this collection (apart from obvious small-scale pieces such as "A Man Alone" from The Ipcress File) a big, lush orchestral sound that makes much of the material seem larger than life and even larger than it looms in the memory (the main title from Born Free, for example, gets a treatment akin to Mahler's "Third Symphony"); a lot of it works brilliantly, though one isn't too thrilled with his reworking and toning down of the music from Goldfinger.

Still, the essentials are here, including perennial favorites such as Somewhere in Time (though one wishes its distant cousin, Barry's score for They Might Be Giants, was represented here as well) and Dances With Wolves. What makes this set unusual and exceptionally edifying, however, is the fact that lesser-known Barry scores, such as his superb, lush music for Mister Moses and later productions such as Robin & Marian, Monte Walsh, and Walkabout (all films that relatively few people saw, though they were [and are] heavily written about) get more generous treatment than familiar fare such as Goldfinger and Thunderball. There's also a decent balance between the thrillers, for which Barry -- identified as he was with the Bond films for many years -- is best-known, and gentle, lyrical pieces such as his waltz-like main theme for The Wrong Box. The result is a collection that opens up the less well-known aspects of Barry's international career and thus can be appreciated even by longtime buffs. The annotation is more biographical than analytical in nature, and the sound is state-of-the-art and a delight to the ear.

Hitler hates Vuvuzela

If you’ve watch any game in the World Cup this year, you’ve undoubtedly been bombarded with the sound of buzzing bees from your television set. It’s an annoying sound that lasts non-stop through an entire match because fans just cannot put down the horn known as the vuvuzela. The horn has presented so much controversy and annoyance that the World Cup officials have considered banning it from games (it hasn’t happened yet, but it still could).

Secrete in Their Eyes Soundtrack [2010]

Juan José Campanella helmed this crime thriller about judicial cover-ups and corruption in Argentina. Ricardo Darín stars as Benjamín, a former criminal court employee who wants to write a novel about an Argentine case from the 1970s in which a woman was raped and murdered. He confides his intentions to a judge with whom he's been secretly smitten for years, Irene (Soledad Villamil), but she expresses reservations about the idea, for reasons that eventually become apparent. Meanwhile, flashbacks set up the central story, unfolding in 1970s Argentina. In that narrative, Argentina has fallen under the control of a military junta and a fair trial has become an increasingly uncommon event in that nation's courts. A woman is found raped and murdered while her husband was at work, and two immigrant workers are essentially forced into confessing to the crime.

Benjamín then teams up with his colleague and friend, the lush Pablo Sandoval (Guillermo Francella), and the two go about identifying and tagging the perpetrator of the original crime. Subtle detail in a photograph alerts Benjamin to the possibility that a man named Gómez (Javier Godino) may have been the real culprit, but finding Gómez and obtaining conclusive evidence against him is no simple task. Moreover, as Benjamín and Pablo struggle to have the case reopened, they also find that bureaucracy and power in Argentine government have made this close to impossible. EL SECRETO DE SUS OJOS (aka THE SECRET IN THEIR EYES) received its North American premiere at the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival.

Sony Pictures Classic is releasing the film in the USA on April 13. The soundtrack features a beautiful score by composers Emilio Kauderer and Federico Jusid.

Centurion Redband trailer

Magnolia Pictures has released a red band trailer for Neil Marshall’s upcoming historical thriller Centurion starring Michael Fassbender.

Centurion, which was originally titled Ninth Legion, is a British production that follows the legend of the the Ninth Legion – a group of 4,000 men who disappeared following a march from Hadrian’s Wall into Scotland almost 2,000 years ago.

AD 117. The Roman Empire stretches from Egypt to Spain, and East as far as the Black Sea. But in northern Britain, the relentless onslaught of conquest has ground to a halt in face of the guerrilla tactics of an elusive enemy: the savage and terrifying Picts. Quintus Dias (Fassbender), sole survivor of a Pictish raid on a Roman frontier fort, marches north with General Virilus' (West) legendary Ninth Legion, under orders to wipe the Picts from the face of the earth and destroy their leader Gorlacon. But when the legion is ambushed on unfamiliar ground, and Virilus taken captive, Quintus faces a desperate struggle to keep his small platoon alive behind enemy lines. Enduring the harsh terrain and evading their remorseless Pict pursuers led by revenge-hungry Pict Warrior Etain (Kurylenko), the band of soldiers race to rescue their General and to reach the safety of the Roman frontier.
