Tamara Drewe the project started life as a Guardian cartoon inspired by Hardy’s ‘Far From the Madding Crowd’, and has now blossomed into a fully-fledged feature film directed by Stephen Frears (The Queen, High Fidelity), with the score recorded and mixed at Abbey Road Studios.

The composer, Alexandre Desplat, explained the thinking behind the score: “I let the audience appreciate the moments of emotion. I think that’s what Stephen likes, that I can make space. Leave space for the acting moments and the strong emotional moments to be by themselves, without pushing the music.”

The score was recorded by the LSO in Abbey Road’s Studio 1 and mixed in the Penthouse. Andrew Dudman worked as engineer for both the recording and mixing and was excited to team up with the duo once more, having previously worked on The Queen and Cheri: “We were delighted to welcome back Frears and Desplat for their third collaboration at Abbey Road.”
