Billie / Popi Soundtrack [1965-1969-2010]

http://img573.imageshack.us/img573/5470/0018fc68.jpg

Intrada presents a double-header from the United Artists record catalog of the 1960s. Billie (1965) and Popi (1969) are two flavorful, enthusiastic film scores by then-prolific composer Dominic Frontiere. Billie is hip, spunky and tuned to the sixties teenage beat with musical pleasures aplenty -- while most of the songs here are in pop mode (with bubblegum lyrics to match), Frontiere’s score is often funky, bluesy, jazzy—befitting a man who, earlier in his peripatetic career, fronted a jazz sextet. Billie tells the coming-of-age story, with songs, of a 15-year-old girl (pluckily played by Patty Duke) whose athletic ability sets her apart from her peers, causing all sorts of endearing trouble with boys, parents, and school officials.

Five years later, Frontiere was offered a very different kind of project. Popi is a small film dealing with an unusual subject: the struggles of a Puerto Rican immigrant (Alan Arkin) to provide a decent life for his two little boys in New York’s Spanish Harlem. Eventually, he concocts a desperate scheme to pass them off as Cuban Boat People refugees, hoping that the resultant publicity will attract a potentially wealthy adoptive family who will get his children off the city’s mean streets. The music for Popi includes more dramatic content, including some beautiful Latin-flavored melodies and a wonderfully symmetrical, nautically-buoyant sailing sequence. Frontiere shows his mettle, providing a score that both supports and enhances the film’s complex mix of comedy and wistfulness. He begins right out of the gate with a sprightly tune for the film's main character.

For this premiere release of Dominic Frontiere's scintillating, sparkling works for Billie and Popi, Intrada had access to the original stereo LP masters stored at MGM. This release features the original LP programs and is limited to 1000 copies.

"World premiere of Sylvester Levay action score for 1990 Lewis Teague tale of elite commando forces battling terrorists, starring Charlie Sheen, Michael Biehn, Bill Paxton. Though Atlantic label issued song album at time of film's release, this is first appearance of hard-driving score by Sylvester Levay. Rome Adventure Soundtrack [1962]

Rome Adventure, also known as Lovers Must Learn, is a 1962 romantic drama film, based on Irving Fineman's novel
Plot
A New England schoolteacher, Prudence Bell, Suzanne Pleshette decides to take off for Italy. Prudence has recommended a book to one of her students that has drawn the ire of the school board and she resigns one step ahead of being fired. She defends the book "Lovers Must Learn" and tells the prudish board that she's going to Rome where she will be surrounded by people who really know the meaning of love. She sails from New York to Italy and at the rail she accidentally picks the wrong man she was standing near as a protective consort. This all gets resolved via telegrams and gives us two potential romantic interests before even leaving. Albert Stillwell, a student of Etruscan history is a perfect gentlemen and scout, while Rossano Brazzi, playing Roberto Orlandi who is the perfect Roman lover, mature, romantic, poetic, and always interested.

Once in Rome, Prudence checks into her boarding home and meets a self centered American architect, Don Porter, Troy Donahue, who is running away from/to the love of his life, Lyda Kent( Angie Dickinson ) a controlling, manipulative bombshell of a woman tied up in her own love storms. Prudence needs a job and gets a tip during dinner that first night in Rome, an English speaking job in an American Book Shop near one of Rome's famous fountains. Bright and early the next morning she lands a perfect job with the bookstore owner, Constance Ford and her large, loud, fuzzy sheep dog. Their first meeting and friendly banter is a terrific lead into their characters and their budding friendship.

The plot thickens as Prudence takes an Italian language course on her record player which sets off a yelling match between her and Don, who isn't a bit interested in her, yet. Don is a close confidant with Roberto and has several discussions about his relationship with Lyda and it's impending implosion. As it falters, Prudence becomes a rebound candidate and handles his interest with aplomb. The two take a trip around Rome in horse drawn carts, his red Vespa scooter, while seeing much of Rome in a great travel log and romantic journey. While at dinner looking over the entire City of Rome, Don buys a chandelier from a peddler that serves as a symbol of their new friendship. At dinner, Emilio Pericoli sings the wonderful song "Al Di Là", his Italian version that rose to number 6 following the movies release in '62.

Lyda and Prudence meet at a stuffy dinner, the visual daggers are shared as each shows the other who's territory Don Porter belongs in. Albert floats through several scenes and is always the clueless, nerdy student with just the right timing to diffuse any situation, unbeknown to him.

Summer holidays, August escapes arrive, the book store closes and Don and Prudence sneak out of town on a train to Lago Maggiore in northern Italy for a wonderful, innocent and beautiful tour of the garden spots of northern Italy, the Italian alps with "Al Di Là" playing over the lift speakers, Verona and its famous Romeo and Juliet balcony, it's market place where the plot thickens. Prudence runs into friends, and makes a mad dash with her Romeo Don out of the market and eventually back to Rome. A time well spent, relationships cemented rock solid and a good time had by all.

Back in Rome, Lyda has gotten herself into more trouble and has urgent needs to see Don who by now knows he has to break off his relationship with her. Don is summoned to a villa where Lyda plays cat and mouse about the fact that she has married a possessive rich old man and needs Don to free her from her palatial prison. Don finally comes to his senses and heads back to Rome, but Prudence is convinced that Dan wants to be with Lyda and makes her plans to leave Rome and return to the States. The process turns into a chaotic goodbye scene in the train station between Prudence and all her friends she's made while in Rome.

She sails back to New York City, and while waiting at the ships rail sees her parents, waves and begins to disembark. While stepping down she sees a chandelier weaving its way through the crowd and behind her family. Her heart leaps as she passes the family and slides into the arms of Don Porter her prize from her Rome Adventure. The end.

Flesh + Blood Soundtrack [1985-2010]

http://www.filmmusicsite.com/images/covers/large/3510.jpg

[Tom D.]
After having done Conan and Conan the Destroyer, you'd think that Basil Poledouris would have been a little loathed to cover the same kind of territory again, but with a different film, after all, there are only so many ways to score a sword and scorcery type film. Rather annoyingly released through the Varese CD Club (and hence difficult to get hold of these days), this is very much like Conan even if the score is consructed more simply and basically alternates action cues with moody romance music. I guess with such a portentous titles as Flesh + Blood you wouldn't expect the action cues to be fun and light but rather more gutsy and loud and indeed you get what you expect. The main theme is constructed of parallel fifths and so often sounds like that Roman music that Miklos Rozsa used in his biblical epics, but you wouldn't really mistake this for a Rozsa score, there are enough obvious Poledouris stylings. This is naturally introduced in the main title, which also features some of the softer music and so pretty much sets both tones for the score.

Siege of the City, Wagon Attack and Castle Invasion are all jolly exciting action cues with a fun game of 'let's see how many brass instruments we can have playing at once' which is always fun to play. However, the action high point would have to be The Box (which doesn't exactly sound like an action cue I admit), but it's a riveting five minutes of extremely loud brass, percussion and everything else flailing around in the background. Mind you, I wouldn't say that it was overorchestrated though, but then again this is music that isn't shy of making an impression. Poledouris uses lots of interesting harmonies to keep a bit more interesting than it might have been. I don't know what it is about Poledouris' harmonies, but they seem to be his maojr asset and it is the harmony that usually makes it easy to tell whether he wrote the score or not. The romantic music I thought was verging on naff for some reason, but it is exactly the kind of Conan inspired romance that I'd expect so I wasn't too disappointed. The finale track neatly sums everything up and provides some more light hearted music which goes cunningly combine with the main theme and weave in the romance as well.

Since this sells for large sums of money, the chances of anyone wanting to give up their copy is very small, especially since it's an extremely enjoyable score all round. While it is rousing, it never becomes too much or overbearing and there is always some interesting orchestral device or quieter moment to provide the required rest periods between stirring loudness. If you have Conan then you're not really missing a great deal, since this is much along the same lines, although I hasten to add that it's not a clone; like I said, there are only so many ways of scoring this kind of film and not many directors are willing to part with formula and Poledouris was almost certainly asked based on his experience of Conan. Good stuff and worth hearing for sure, so beg, borrow or steal a copy.

GREYSTOKE: THE LEGEND OF TARZAN, LORD OF THE APES [1984-2010]

http://www.filmmusicsite.com/images/covers/large/3190.jpg

La-La Land Records presents the premiere CD release of composer John Scott's (THE FINAL COUNTDOWN, SHOOT TO KILL, NORTH DALLAS FORTY) magnificent orchestral score to the 1984 Warner Bros. feature film GREYSTOKE: THE LEGEND OF TARZAN, LORD OF THE APES, starring Christopher Lambert, Andie MacDowell, Ralph Richardson, Ian Holm and James Fox, directed by Hugh Hudson. Scott's brilliant score bursts with the violence and vitality of the jungle, yet is also heart-moving and surprisingly gentle. This re-issue was produced by MV Gerhard and remastered by James Nelson from the original Warner Bros. ¼ inch album masters. While no elements were secured to give this wonderful score the expanded treatment it deserves, we were able to pull the OVERTURE and END CREDITS off the original magnetic track and present it here as Bonus Material. CD Booklet features in-depth liner notes by film music writer Jeff Bond. This release is limited to 3000 Units.

Uyen Linh in Cam On Tinh Yeu (Thanks to Love) and Take Me To The River

http://img547.imageshack.us/img547/9208/uyenlinh15111.jpg

If you're wondering what's happen next to Uyên Linh which once I mentioned in here. Last Saturday she made her mark again with final three songs. Firstly is Sao Chẳng Vể Với Em (Why You Are Not Back to Me) is very touching. The second is "Take me to the River" which performed by Annie Lennox back to 1995. The last song is specially wrote by Huy Tuan for final night, Cám Ơn Tình Yêu (Thanks to the Love) - believe me this song is not good for final gala like this.

Take your time to see what she made of that night. And it is a very good reason for you to vote for her if you are staying in Vietnam now. She deserved this, because she was not raised from musical school like her final competitor Văn Mai Hương, but she is from Institute of Diplomatic. And she has heart touching voice, that is.

http://img441.imageshack.us/img441/5603/uyenlinhthongtriidol2.jpg

So here she is in Sao Chẳng Vể Với Em - Why You Are Not Back to Me

Take Me to the River

And Cám Ơn Tình Yêu - Thanks to the Love

Last but not least here is her If I Ain't Got You cover from Alicia Keys.

See ya.

not on the film but worth listening

Sorry for late new soundtracks this week. I'm a bit sick right now.

Limitless

http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/2741/limitless201104.jpg

Limitless (formerly called Dark Fields), a new sci-fi thriller which centers on a man who reaches his fullest mental and social potential thanks to the drug, is now online.

Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro star in Limitless, a paranoia-fueled action thriller about an unpublished writer whose life is transformed by a top-secret smart drug that allows him to use 100% of his brain and become a perfect version of himself. His enhanced abilities soon attract shadowy forces that threaten his new life in this darkly comic and provocative film.

Greg Mottola (The Daytrippers, Superbad, Adventureland) directed the movie which follows two British comic-book geeks traveling across the U.S. encounter an alien outside Area 51.

Paul stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, who also wrote the script, and an alien voiced by Seth Rogen.

The film also co-stars Jane Lynch, Jason Bateman, Sigourney Weaver, Kristen Wiig, Bill Hader, Blythe Danner and Jeffrey Tambor.

Simon Pegg and Nick Frost reunite for the comedy adventure Paul as two sci-fi geeks whose pilgrimage takes them to America’s UFO heartland. While there, they accidentally meet an alien who brings them on an insane road trip that alters their universe forever.

For the past 60 years, an alien named Paul (voiced by Seth Rogen) has been hanging out at a top-secret military base. For reasons unknown, the space-travelling smart ass decides to escape the compound and hop on the first vehicle out of town – a rented RV containing Earthlings Graeme Willy (Pegg) and Clive Collings (Frost).

Chased by federal agents and the fanatical father of a young woman that they accidentally kidnap, Graeme and Clive hatch a fumbling escape plan to return Paul to his mother ship. And as two nerds struggle to help, one little green man might just take his fellow outcasts from misfits to intergalactic heroes.

Paul hits theaters on March 18th 2011.

You Know My Name

This song just cross my mind at the moment. What a release to playing rock songs in tight schedule. One of my friend just quit her job and blame it all for a intricate boss.

Here it is

If you take a life
Do you know what you'll give?
Odds are you won't like What it Is.

When the storm arrives
Would you be seen with me?
By the merciless eyes I've deceived

I've seen angels fall from blinding heights
But you yourself are nothing so divine
Just next in line

Arm yourself because no one else here will save you
The odds will betray you
And I will replace you
You can't deny the prize it may never fulfill you
It longs to kill you
Are you willing to die?
The coldest blood runs through my veins
You know my name

If you come inside
Things will not be the same
When you return to my eyes

And if you think you've won
You never saw me change
The game that we have been playing

I've seen diamonds cut through harder men
Then you yourself but if you must pretend
You may meet your end

Arm yourself because no one else here will save you
The odds will betray you
And I will replace you
You can't deny the prize it may never fulfill you
It longs to kill you
Are you willing to die?
The coldest blood runs through my veins

Try to hide your hand
Forget how to feel (forget how to feel)
Life is gone
With just a spin of the wheel (spin of the wheel)

Arm yourself because no one else here will save you
The odds will betray you
And I will replace you
You can't deny the prize it may never fulfill you
It longs to kill you
Are you willing to die?
The coldest blood runs through my veins
You know my name (You Know My Name)

You Know My Name (You Know My Name)
You Know My Name
You Know My Name
You Know My Name

See ya. Have a nice weekend.

Happy Now Soundtrack [2010]

http://img820.imageshack.us/img820/4576/happynow.jpg

Six years before Italian composer Dario Marianelli wrote his Academy Award-winning score for Joe Wright’s Atonement, he composed the score for a little-known British dark comedy entitled Happy Now.

As a new entry in MovieScore Media’s ‘Discovery Collection’ (where the same composer’s I Capture the Castle was previously released) brings to you one of Marianelli’s most quirky and entertaining scores – a wonderfully charming orchestral score which in many ways foreshadows his score for Terry Gilliam’s The Brothers Grimm, which came for years later. This music – crowned by a very nice and memorable main theme and performed beautifully by the Munich Symphony Orchestra - has never before been released in any format.

Wolrd premiere release of Marianelli’s score is a must-have for fans of this wonderful composer!
